The surprise follow-up to Grasshopper Manufacture’s 2016 roguelike, Deathverse: Let It Die has been announced at the PlayStation State of Play for October 2021. Publisher GungHo Online Entertainment and developer Supertrick Games revealed that this nonsensical multiplayer survival action game will be launching on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in Spring 2022.
In the original Let It Die, players followed the skateboard-riding Uncle Death and climbed the Tower of Barbs. What awaited there was a rather violent game filled with gore, mushrooms, and terrifying monsters. It was released for free on PlayStation Network and later on Steam. With over seven million downloads as of September 2021, Let It Die has found an audience.
Set hundreds of years after the events of the first game, Deathverse: Let It Die will have players enter a battle arena in an in-game survival reality TV show, “Death Jamboree.” As revealed in PlayStation's new trailer, the show is hosted by the monocle-wearing, gold teeth-sporting emcee, Bryan Zemeckis, and the doll-like former champion with a golden arm, Queen B. In the game, players will be able to customize their characters and build weapons to kill off the competition and stay alive. The two-minute trailer is filled with monsters, players with wacky weapons, colorful characters, and gratuitous violence.

According to Gungho Online Entertainment, the gory battle royale is set on an uninhabited island covered in an indispensable energy source that has mutated the local flora and fauna, creating powerful and deadly mutant monsters. Each contestant uses “Wilson,” a robotic combat tool that can transform into weapons, drop shields, upgrade skills, and more. However, there is an underlying mystery with the show producers of Death Jamboree, and it is up to the players to uncover the secrets of the show as they climb their way to the top. Deathverse: Let It Die is entering a crowded market; even Halo Infinite reportedly features a battle royale mode.
Deathverse: Let It Die kicked PlayStation’s State of Play off with a wild and frenzied bang. The battle royale looks to maintain the same eccentric personality as its prequel. It remains to be seen if the previous game's Uncle Death will play a part; he is faintly seen watching TV at the beginning of the trailer. Hopefully, this game stands out in a sea of other battle royale titles like Naraka: Bladepoint and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt. Deathverse: Let It Die could use a new angle to set it apart; it could make use of randomly generated maps, which some are calling the future of the battle royale genre. Until then, Let It Die fans and battle royale enthusiasts can enter the battle arena when Deathverse: Let It Die releases next year.
Deathverse: Let It Die will release in Spring 2022 for the PS5 and PS4.
