Masked Singer: Dancer Who Accused Robin Thicke Of Groping Her Speaks Out

Emily Ratajkowski, who was a backup dancer in The Masked Singer judge Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" music video, has opened up about why she chose to speak out about her experience on set. Emily recently accused Robin of groping her while filming the 2013 music video. She appeared in the video with two other women, and an unrated version featured all of them topless. While the song was a massive hit, it received lots of controversy. The lyrics were perceived to objectify women and trivialize sexual violence. Rapper T.I. and former The Voice coach Pharrell Williams were also featured in the song.

Prior to speaking out about her "Blurred Lines" experience, Emily has spoken out about being objectified in the past. In September 2020, she wrote an essay detailing negative experiences of being sexualized in the public eye. It also announced recently that Emily would release a book titled My Body, which explains her experience with the Masked Singer judge. One important detail of the incident was that Robin was apparently drunk while on set for the music video.

Now, Emily is telling Us Magazine why she chose to speak out about Robin. She posted the following message on her Instagram stories. "I had a hard time writing that essay for a bunch of different reasons but ultimately I decided to include it in the book because my experience on the BL set and how I talked about it says so much about the evolution of my beliefs and politics." Emily says that, at the time of the music video being filmed, most of her modeling jobs were unpleasant. When she worked with Robin on "Blurred Lines," however, parts of the experience were positive. According to Emily, "you'll have to read the essay to fully understand the other sides to my experience." The essay she's referring to will be found in My Body.

While Emily is glad to be opening up about the situation, she's upset because the story was originally leaked. She had hoped to be the one to tell her story. "What's frustrating is I didn't come out with it, it was leaked, I really like to have control over my image and I wrote this book of essays to share the whole story and all sides of it, and I feel like it turns into a clickbait frenzy." The essay was leaked by the Sunday Times of London, at which point Emily says she felt the need to minimize the situation.

Since this story broke shortly after the season premiere of The Masked Singer, fans have wondered how show producers would handle the situation. Since all of the shows for this season have been taped, it wouldn't be possible to remove Robin from the panel. Perhaps producers have edited down his comments or featured less commentary from Robin in recent episodes. So far, it doesn't seem too noticeable either way. It seems fans haven't expressed concerns over his presence on the show, and the controversy surrounding him faded. However, now that Emily is speaking out more, it should be interesting to see if producers keep Robin on the show for The Masked Singer season 7.
