For many, the hardest thing about being a The Real Housewives of Potomac fan is having to watch Ashley and Michael Darby work on their relationship. And their, cringe alert, sex life. Michael and Ashley have had a turbulent marriage, which has often played out on RHOP. Michael's faced numerous cheating allegations, most recently when pictures were leaked of him in a hotel room with another woman. Michael admitted to being in the hotel room, but denied that anything happened between him and the woman. It doesn't help that Michael has also faced allegations that he groped a male crew member on the show and allegedly said that he was attracted to RHOP star Robyn Dixon's husband, Juan.
Ashley continues to take him back, but they do go to counseling on the show to work through their issues. After their first baby was born, Ashley revealed on season 5 that she was suffering from postpartum depression when Michael reportedly cheated on Ashley yet again. Now, with a second baby in tow, she's been trying to better communicate with him and restore their intimacy, to no avail.
In the penultimate episode of RHOP season 6, Ashley talks to her therapist about rekindling their romance, noting that Michael hasn't been intimate with her, even though she wants him to be, and it's triggering memories of him cheating. She sets up a hotel date with him, where they sip on Corona Light and have a dinner together. Later, clad in a leopard print dress she blindfolds him and proceeds to play a "sexy" guessing game. It was a lot to take in for viewers, who expressed their distaste for the whole scene on social media. One Reddit user wrote, "I couldn’t look at the screen during that Ashley/Michael thing."Another user wrote that they put their fast forward button to good use during the scene, not being able to bear the awkwardness of the whole thing.
Most fans are actually rooting for Ashley and their qualms mainly stem from wanting the best for her. Aside from the cheating, Michael has also criticized Ashley's post-baby body in the past and in fans' opinion, is often pretty absent when she claims to be trying her hardest to connect with him. In addition to that, because of his previous behavior, Michael sits many RHOP group events out because he doesn't get along with her fellow cast members, really rounding out the fan opinion that Michael just isn't the man Ashley needs in her life, especially now that they have two kids together.
When you throw in the fact that even her own family has issues with her marriage, it makes sense that the last thing people want to see on their television screens Sunday nights is Ashley trying to seduce her own husband, who by most accounts just doesn't respect her the way they want him to. If anything, it just seems that fans want the best for Ashley, and whatever that it, it's not Michael.
