Silver Surfer Is Teaming Up With Thanos To Find The Reality Stone

Warning! Spoilers for Silver Surfer: Rebirth #1 by Marvel Comics below.

Marvel's Silver Surfer will team up with one of his greatest enemies in the cosmos, Thanos, in a brand new miniseries titled Silver Surfer: Rebirth. On Wednesday, Marvel Comics revealed that the iconic creative team Ron Marz and Ron Lim will reunite for a brand new five-issue comic, which will star Silver Surfer traveling across the universe to stop someone who has stolen the Reality Stone and is using it for their own gain.

The Silver Surfer has become one of the most iconic cosmic heroes in the Marvel Universe since being created by Jack Kirby and debuting in The Fantastic Four #48. Following the debut of the Infinity Gaunlet and leading into Jim Starlin's Infinity Gauntlet Saga, the creative team of Ron Marz and Ron Lim took over the character and continued the Silver Surer's journey in a reshaped cosmic world. Marz would remain on the title for five years, helping redefine the character (alongside Lim) for a new generation of comic readers in the '90s. Now, Marz and Lim are teaming up once again for a brand new miniseries.

On Wednesday, Marvel Comics revealed Silver Surfer: Rebirth, an upcoming miniseries by Marz and Lim which will see the iconic creators revisiting one of their most iconic runs. The miniseries will follow Silver Surfer as he attempts to track down someone who stole the Reality Stone. The unnamed thief will use the powerful gem to bring back Captain Mar-Vell from the dead. To stop the new Reality Stone wielder, Silver Surfer will team up with Thanos to track down the gem and try to undo all the changes made to reality. Lim expressed excitement at reteaming with Lim for the miniseries, revealing in a press release that despite it being a while since they've worked together, "it feels like hardly a day has passed." Marz was also enthusiastic about working with Lim again, saying even three decades later, they were able to "slip right back into that same groove," with the hero. He added that it was "great to be wielding the Power Cosmic again."

Marz and Lim's run on Silver Surfer is one of the defining runs for the cosmic hero, so to see them work together on a new series is incredibly exciting. Considering Silver Surfer is willing to work with Thanos to track down the Reality Stone, the Marvel Universe is in serious trouble from whoever stole the powerful gem. Silver Surfer: Rebirth comes to comic book shops on January 19, 2022.
