Far Cry 6 Update Is Massive On PS5, Adds New Challenges & More

Far Cry 6 has only been out about a month, but like many AAA games these days, it’s already receiving a truly massive patch that adds new challenges and fixes a whole host of bugs. The game already boasted a map size bigger than all of the previous games in the series, and now it may also hold the title of biggest file size. Far Cry 6 has plenty of DLC coming, so clearly, the game has much more to offer players in the future.

Since Far Cry 6’s launch just under a month ago, it’s had its fair share of tweaks like any other game. The game was mostly well-received upon launch, with many remarking upon the game’s improved mechanics from previous entries in the series. While some may have dinged the game for its story, it has done pretty well for publisher Ubisoft, selling numbers similar to the launch of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey some years back. Given that Far Cry 6 is the type of game that can take tens of hours to complete, it’s important that it be as smooth of an experience as possible. So, while going through the longest Far Cry game to date, players will find themselves having to download plenty of patches and updates.

The Ubisoft site details the contents of the game’s latest patch, Title Update 2, which weighs in at a hefty 90 gigabytes on PS5 and contains a large number of changes and fixes. This update makes some gameplay updates, including new Daily and Weekly Challenges, a new Special Operation available November 9th, and some adjusted enemy respawn rates in certain areas. These changes should help keep players going while they wait for the various planned DLC to release. On another fun note, this patch will remove the not-so-secret mission starring Danny Trejo, which was accidentally released for Far Cry 6 prematurely. No word was given as to when that mission will be officially released.

There’s even more included in Title Update 2. Some changes referred to as “quality-of-life” include a now-skippable title sequence, an exclamation point icon to alert players to the potential for co-op, and an update to Colorblind mode to make the game even more accessible to players. There’s also a pretty long list of specific bug fixes, broken up by which category of the game they target. Suffice it to say that the update does much to justify its large size. Still, it’s interesting how drastically file sizes can vary in a time where whole new Metroid games can be smaller than a single Call of Duty update.

AAA games are huge undertakings, and inevitably are going to ship with bugs that the developers haven’t managed to fix yet. Big patches like this, even if they take up a lot of space, can really improve a game’s quality post-launch. By the time the DLC comes out, featuring the unique opportunity for players to take on the roles of the series’ villains, the game should hopefully be running pretty smoothly.
