Scrubs: 5 Couples That Are Perfect Together (& 5 That Make No Sense)

In order to be one of the best medical shows out there, a series has to make us care for the relationships it presents. It usually goes 50/50 whether fans like couples or not, which went the same on Scrubs.  In this list, we’ve considered any kind of association, either romantic or simply physical, to qualify as a “couple.”

Also, any characters who had the potential to be a great couple and had a history together also fall under this qualification. Finally, platonic love counts here too as we bring you the five couples that were perfect on Scrubs, and five that didn’t make sense.

10 Perfect: Cox & Jordan

We saw these two break up, only to be reunited once they realized they were happy as a divorced couple rather than a married one. Safe to say, Cox and Jordan ticked the boxes for the ludicrous reasons sitcom couples break, which has admittedly been seen on other shows too, but they pulled it off so well that you wanted them back together.

Their personalities were exactly the same, to the point that you’d think they were simply male and female versions of the same person. Due to this, Cox and Jordan understood each other well, so much so that it even annoyed them. However, it was their constant squabbling that showed they did love each other, and the fire never went away between them.

9 No Sense: Cox & Carla

When the show started out Cox was in love with Carla, feelings that weren’t returned from her. However, we were also informed that they had actually gone on a date once before, so there was some romantic history here.

Once we saw how great they were as friends, it became clear why they didn’t make it as a couple. Cox needed someone who constantly challenged him as a significant other, while he needed Carla as  confidant whom he could go to when he needed to unload. This was pure friendship, one that had no business turning romantic.

8 Perfect: J.D. & Elliot

Their “Will they/Won’t they” nature is even greater than Ross and Rachel’s was on Friends as Elliot and J.D. would break up at least once every season in the initial years. They would later try to be friends, but could never see the other be with someone else.

It was meant to be, after all, since Elliot and J.D. always needed the other in their lives. J.D. came out a more mature person who grew out of his childish tendencies because he wanted to be better for Elliot; she in turn shed her competitive nature because of his influence.

7 No Sense: J.D. & Kim

On paper it would appear as if J.D. was a fool to let Kim go away as she was the total package any man would want, who even admitted her love for him. But we have to agree with J.D. on his decision to leave because he just didn’t feel the same for her.

At the end of the day, being in love is what’s needed to have a happy relationship, so with J.D. feeling stifled with Kim it was a recipe for disaster. We saw how well they were able to co-parent their child later on, and this was the only area they were good together. As romantic partners, there was no future for them.

6 Perfect: Turk & Carla

Undoubtedly the “It” couple of the series, Turk and Carla represented the real life struggles of a couple all the way from dating to married life and eventually parenthood. When they hit snags in their relationship, it was for understandable reasons since marriage takes work.

When they were at their best, no other couple could compete with these two as Scrubs had this couple as its backbone. Through thick and thin, they managed to last and ended the series still in matrimonial bliss.

5 No Sense: Elliot & Keith

The only reason Keith was ever on Scrubs was to be a rival to J.D. It’s kind of a shame too because Keith wasn’t handed any room to be a person other than be Elliot’s love interest. That’s why we just couldn’t get on board with this couple since it was entirely based on Elliot.

In-universe, Keith was too much of a nice guy to make decisions on his own, and he let Elliot slip by without even being aware there was something wrong. Elliot too came out looking worse, as she constantly showed a fear of commitment.

4 Perfect: Janitor & Lady

We have to hand full props to Lady for being the only person who could even stand the Janitor; for that reason alone, this couple was a win. Unlike the others who considered Janitor to mainly be a nuisance, Lady brought something out of him as a person.

He attempted to be a giver for a change rather than be someone always looking to have resentment for no reason. They also had similar personalities despite being worlds apart in profession. Janitor could also feel secure that someone in her position saw him being worth more than a common worker.

3 No Sense: J.D. & Jordan

The one time these two were a “couple” was when they hooked up only a little while after meeting each other for the first time. However, Scrubs did keep revisiting this moment many times over the years, and Jordan was also shown warming up to J.D.

But it’s pretty obvious why this was a horrible pairing since all Jordan ever did was talk down to J.J. He had no guts that Cox did, meaning J.D. would’ve always been stepped over had he been with Jordan. By the end, they were more like siblings than anything else, which makes their hook-up all the more weird, and why this coupling never had a chance.

2 Perfect: Turk & J.D.

Yes, we are aware that these two didn’t become an official couple at any point, but it would be an absolute lie to say they didn’t have romantic feelings for one another. Turk and J.D. were so codependent, that even Carla admitted it was like they were married.

Besides, they said they loved each other more frequently than actual couples did on the show, and J.D.’s benchmark for love was Turk, which he revealed when he told Elliot he loved her more than Turk. Had they not been heterosexual, there’s no doubt J.D. and Turk would’ve been married to each other, which makes this the best couple out of Scrubs.

1 No Sense: Dan & Elliot

This always had to be at the top for how uncomfortable the truth is that these two hooked up yet ended up being in-laws. Even before Elliot married J.D., it was extremely unsettling for her to be with his brother.

They weren’t right for each other anyway, as the two admitted they were together only for the intimate parts of it not the emotional ones. Dan was a flighty person who didn’t know what he wanted, while Elliot was just looking for an ego boost when they got together. It was a nonsensical coupling which is the worst out of the show, especially now that they’re technically family.
