Star Conflict's Newest Update Dedicates Event To Isaac Asimov

The MMO game Star Conflict has decided to honor science fiction author Isaac Asimov by creating an in-game event for the author's birthday. Asimov was born on January 2nd, 1920, and lived until 1992 as an incredibly prolific writer who has often been credited with bringing science fiction into mainstream culture. With the hundreds of books that Asimov put out in his lifetime, it is no wonder popular space-themed video games would want to honor him in some way.

Star Conflict was developed by Russian company Targem Games and the beta for the game was opened up on July 24, 2012. Eventually, Star Conflict was released through Steam on September 4, 2014. The game is set in space and each player can control spacecraft which have different combat abilities and skill sets. The player can engage in PVE and PVP modes as well as enjoy an open world sandbox where they can explore to their hearts content. Despite the fact that it may resemble Starcraft to some, Star Conflict actually seems to have a lot more in common with MOBA games like DOtA 2.

According to the website MassivelyOP, Asimov is being honored during Star Conflict's new update A New Threat. This update has a brand-new event titled "New Foundation" which will feature a lot of content for players, and is named after Asimov's popular Foundation book series. Players will have access to 40 brand new stages to play through and these areas will reward them with things like new ship components. In order to play through this new event players must purchase the pass for $19.99. Check out the reveal trailer for Star Conflict: A New Threat below.

This new event seems to have a lot in common with an event from earlier this year which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. For three whole months players were able to participate in a special "Moon Race" event, which opened up 30 brand new stages and rewarded players with a Custodian Frigate if they were able to complete the final stage. Once again, in order to participate in everything this update had to offer the player would need to purchase the "Lunar Pass."

Without having played through the entire A New Threat update it is impossible to know just exactly what rewards may wait around the corner for players. If someone is a fan of Star Conflict it may be worth finding an extra twenty dollars to put towards "New Foundation," and, on top of that, it is very nice to see a video game honoring such an important person in the realm of science fiction. If anyone should be honored in a space game like Star Conflict, it's Isaac Asimov.
