I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1, episode 5 ends on a cliffhanger that sees Dylan risking his life to help Alison — but is Dylan really dead at the hands of Clara? I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1’s episode 5 wasted no time in turning its focus to Clara, the mysterious figure who was revealed to know Bruce, Alison and Lennon’s father. Dylan was convinced she was the murderer after spotting her in the cave where they left Lennon to be washed away by the ocean a year prior. And so he, Alison, Riley, and Margot headed to Clara’s to snoop around. But when she discovered someone was on her property, Clara went after them. To save Alison from being spotted, Dylan distracted Clara, outing his location as she went after him. By the end of I Know What You Did Last Summer episode 5’s end, Dylan was nowhere to be found. However, there was blood dripping across the foliage and the wall near where the killer left a machete.
With only three episodes left in I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1, it’s possible Dylan is dead. Only one of the friends, Johnny, who was present the night of Lennon’s death has been killed so far and it seems about time for another gruesome murder to happen. However, Johnny’s death was shown onscreen, whereas Dylan doesn’t appear despite all the blood that suggests he might have been a casualty. It’s possible neither Clara or the killer caught up to him and his fate will be revealed soon. Crucially, Dylan may have caught sight of the villain if he was close enough, with the killer all but revealing they’ve been following Alison and her friends.
To be sure, his death would remove any sense of accountability for the accident, with Dylan’s empathy and guilt for the accident being a grounding point for the series. That, above all else, would be a reason to kill him off before season 1 ends. At this point, however, the fact that I Know What You Did Last Summer doesn’t reveal Dylan’s dead body more than likely hints at his survival. But by not confirming his death, I Know What You Did Last Summer may have made Dylan a suspect. While the series would like viewers to believe that Clara is the murderer, her weapon of choice is a gun, which she carries when going after Dylan.
At the end of the episode, a woman is heard moaning in pain offscreen, with the machete back in plain sight. In a twist, I Know What You Did Last Summer all but confirms Dylan isn’t dead and that he may have used the weapon on Clara. Considering he is nowhere in sight and isn’t the one making gut-wrenching sounds, it’s likely Dylan survived to live another day.
