Rumble 2: Everything We Know So Far | Screen Rant

Paramount+ partnered with WWE to produce the recently released animated feature Rumble; here's everything we know so far about Rumble 2. The movie was first announced back in 2015 as an adaptation of Rob Harrell's graphic novel Monster on the HillFree Guy screenwriter Matt Lieberman wrote the film, along with Hamish Grieve and Alexandra Bracken. Originally, Tinkerbell director Bradley Raymond was at the helm, but was replaced by Grieve, who previously had been head of story for Rise of the Guardians. A theatrical release was scheduled, but instead Paramount chose to deliver Rumble via their streaming service, Paramount+.

Following the likes of Kung-Fu Panda, the character of Steve (Will Arnett), aka Rayburn Jr., is a lazy monster who loves sleeping, eating, and purposely losing wrestling matches for money from Lady Mayhen. The only problem is, he's the only monster who can compete for the city of Stoker after Tentacular (Terry Crews) abandons the town and vows to tear down the Stadium. Teenage Winnie (Geraldine Viswanathan) wants to follow in her famous father's footsteps and become a monster wrestling coach that leads her champion to victory. When Winnie finds out that Steve is actually the son of her father's best wrestler, Rayburn, she sets out to bring the town back to its glory days by having Steve beat Tentacular.

Rumble's ending closes up the film quite nicely. That said, like most competition-based animated films like How to Train Your Dragon, there's plenty of room left over for a budding franchise. After all, in a world of monsters, there are plenty of probable conflicts to necessitate a sequel. Here's what we know about a potential Rumble 2.

Technically, Paramount has yet to announce a Rumble 2. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that a sequel isn't in the works. Thus far, the movie is having a successful release and it will most likely continue to do well considering its all-star cast. While Rumble isn't the first animated fighting competition film, it does have a unique twist in the form of monsters and humans coexisting peacefully. With Rayburn Jr.'s new style of wrestling making its mark on the WMW, there's a lot of places a sequel could go.

While the source material Monster on the Hill is a standalone graphic novel, it doesn't mean that Paramount's streaming service would turn its nose up at a possible franchise. The movie's ending sets up a sequel in Winnie and Rayburn Jr.'s partnership. Tentacular is beaten, Winnie becomes an all-star coach, Jr. finally loves winning, and the town of Stover is safe because it has a properly famous monster. Since Winnie is a successful coach there could be more monsters looking for her and Jr.'s help. Tentacular is supposedly the biggest and the scariest monster in the WMW, but that doesn't mean a bigger and scarier monster isn't lurking in the shadows somewhere.

With a talented voice cast like Will Arnett, Geraldine Viswanathan, Terry Crews, and Tony Danza audiences hope that the titular characters return. If a Rumble 2 were to happen Will Arnett will probably come back as Rayburn Jr. and the same goes for Geraldine Viswanathan as Winnie. Along with WWE stars like Becky Lynch, the voiceover cast does feature a number of real-life WWE talents, and if Rumble performs well enough it might attract other wrestlers-turned-actor like John Cena, Dwayne Johnson, and Dave Bautista.

Since Rumble 2 hasn't been announced yet there obviously is no known release date. Rumble is fun for the whole family and features heartwarming themes, such as being true to yourself, tolerance, and friendship. If Rumble 2 were to happen, it likely wouldn't be greenlit until after the holidays. Considering how long it takes to make an animated film as opposed to a live-action one, the earliest Rumble 2 could be released wouldn't be until 2024.
