The upcoming remake is set to be co-written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand and directed by Gregor, the duo behind this year’s murder mystery comedy Most Likely To Murder starring Adam Pally (Making History) and Rachel Bloom, as well as being known for their work on Bloom’s acclaimed series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and CBS’ former hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
Rookie of the Year, directed by Daniel Stern (Home Alone) and written by Sam Harper (Rio), followed a young baseball player (Nichols) who, after injuring himself catching a fly ball, gets the ability to throw 100 mph fastballs and is recruited by the Chicago Cubs in an effort to help win more games and bring in better crowds.
The film, which was a box office success but received mixed reviews from critics, also starred Gary Busey (The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time), Amy Morton (Chicago P.D.), Bruce Altman (Fifty Shades Darker), Dan Hedaya (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Neil Flynn (The Middle) and Stern.
