Joker: Joaquin Phoenix Emotionally Embraces Director In Final Day Images

Director of Joker Todd Phillips was inspired to upload pictures of himself and lead actor Joaquin Phoenix after watching Phoenix accept his Oscar for the role. Joker stirred up a lot of controversy and mixed reactions. Some viewers were put off by the gun violence that shook them to their core in a much more realistic way than superpower-based violence. Others applauded the movie for tackling the serious issues around guns and what happens when they end up in the wrong hands. While Joker might not have been palatable for all audiences, no one can deny Phoenix's commitment to his role.

Phoenix's talented portrayal of failed comedian Arthur Fleck impressed the academy. Not only did Joker receive 11 Oscar nominations, Phoenix won every single award he was nominated for. Phoenix's first accolade came from winning Best Actor in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globes. The wins kept coming from that point on. He won Best Actor at the Critics' Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTA Awards, and finally the coveted Oscar. Phoenix has been using his acceptance speeches as an opportunity to speak out against injustice. Phoenix even called out the BAFTA Awards during his speech due to the lack of diversity in this year's awards season. He used his SAG Awards speech to advocate for animal rights, and his Oscar speech covered the overall topic of discrimination.

Director Todd Phillips uploaded a series of Instagram pictures of himself with Phoenix on set during their final day of filming. The first picture shows Phillips and Phoenix in an emotional embrace. Phoenix is wearing the hospital outfit that Arthur Fleck wears in the final scene of the movie when he is admitted into a psychiatric ward. The next few pictures show up close stills of Phoenix in character as he films those final scenes. The last chunk of pictures capture the dynamic between the actor and director. They show the pair having discussions on set one-on-one and even posing for a funny picture during downtime. Check out Phillips' Joker photos below:

Todd Phillips wrote an emotional tribute to the filming process in the caption. He waited until Phoenix accepted his Oscar for Best Actor to post these picture which is fitting. These pictures are from the final day of filming, and Phoenix closed out awards season by accepting the Oscar. Joker's journey has finally come to an end and all of those awards couldn't have come without the hard work that was put in on set. Phillips also used the post as an opportunity to thank the cast and crew for staying by his side throughout the "intense and unique experience" of shooting this film.

Now that the final page of Joker has been turned for Phillips, he has to move onto another project. It will be challenging for him to find something that tops Joker. He has sworn off doing the comedy that launched his career because of "woke culture." He clearly yearns to get reactions from his work, but maybe at this point he feels he can do better with drama over comedy. However, using "woke culture" as an excuse for abandoning comedy is unfair. Comedies that are well-adjusted with the times are thriving. With that being said, Phillips bond with Phoenix is touching and special. Hopefully, the dynamic duo will reunite for another powerful project in the future.
