Real Housewives of New Jersey viewers have been following Joe Giudice's legal troubles for years. After he completed a 41-month stint in prison for wire fraud and bankruptcy fraud, he entered an ICE detention center. In response to the tough conditions in ICE, Joe's lawyer asked for him to be freed and sent to Italy while he waited for the result of his appeal.
In November 2019, Joe made it to Italy. Soon after, his estranged wife, RHONJ OG Teresa Giudice, traveled to Italy with the former couple's four daughters, Gia, Gabriella, Milania and Audriana. The reunion was heavily documented on Instagram and filmed for the Real Housewives of New Jersey season 10 finale episode. Although Teresa and Joe are no longer a couple, she and her daughters have been hoping that he can return to the United States in the near future.
Page Six broke the news that Joe's appeal in his deportation case had been denied. The publication obtained court documents from the United States Court of Appeals. James J. Leonard Jr., the Giudice family lawyer who has appeared on RHONJ many times, spoke to Page Six about the court's decision. He said, "We have always maintained that Joe Giudice belongs in the United States with his family, not in Italy."
James declared, "The immigration laws in our country are both draconian and antiquated and need to be revisited by forward-thinking members of Congress.” Joe committed what is referred to as "an aggravated felony." An aggravated felony provides enough grounds to validate a deportation sentence. According to court documents, an aggravated felony is "an offense that … involves fraud or deceit in which the loss to the victim or victims exceeds $10,000." Joe hoped that this term wouldn't be applicable since his loans were eventually forgiven, meaning that there was, ultimately, no loss. Unfortunately for Joe, that line of thinking did nothing to persuade the judge. Joe's lawyer said that they are discussing different options about how to handle the situation from this point forward.
Normally, all of this would be captured for Real Housewives of New Jersey, which was supposed to be filming right now. However, just like many reality TV shows, production has been on hold. As of this moment, Teresa and her daughters haven't commented on the ruling. As the RHONJ fans know, all the girls are so close with their father and this news just has to be devastating to them all. At this point, it doesn't seem likely that Joe will ever be able to return to the United States, unless his lawyer manages to pull off some sort of miracle.
