Season 3 of Killing Eve is over, and those who survived will be undoubtedly be unpacking a ton of emotional baggage moving forward. Kenny's death brings Eve out of her emotional stupor and away from her job making dumplings to reunite her with Carolyn, her passion for investigating the Twelve reignited. Villanelle undergoes an existential crisis, Konstantin continues to double-cross everyone, and multiple new characters are introduced.
The season's final episode leaves a lot open to interpretation and doesn't provide conclusive answers about what happens to the main characters. The most that can be gleaned is that they are all at a crossroads both personally and professionally, leaving the audience hypothesizing about what season 4 has in store.
10 Why Does Carolyn Shoot Paul?
Carolyn's allegiances have been called into question throughout the series. Season 3 shifts to focus on her as a parent and her efforts to find out who killed her son. Even when she gets the answer, she lets Konstantin go and shoots Paul Bradwell instead. Why?
She may hold Paul ultimately accountable and figures that by taking him out, she's getting revenge and disposing of a credible threat and snitch... or is she covering her tracks? Carolyn tells Eve to stop investigating the Twelve. Is this because she's trying to protect Eve? Has the risk exceeded the reward? Is it their inability to make strides in their investigation? Given Carolyn's decision to dispose of a valuable source of intel, it could be a warning.
9 Will There Be A Showdown Between Hélène And Villanelle?
Season 3 introduces the character of Hélène, who recruits Dasha to handle Villanelle but is ultimately the one calling the shots — or at least taking her instructions from an unknown member of the Twelve. This shady organization has excused Villanelle's erratic behavior in the past. The looming question is if Villanelle has finally outlived her usefulness, proving to be a bigger liability than an asset throughout the season. A deadly showdown between Hélène and Villanelle seems imminent but unlikely to take place right away since Hélène is a formidable adversary for Villanelle, something she's been sorely lacking.
8 How Did Kenny Die?
Video footage reveals the last person to see Kenny alive is Konstantin. Konstantin swears his visit was well-intentioned and he was trying to save Kenny by convincing him to work for the Twelve, but the young man felt threatened and kept stepping back until he fell off the roof.
There are many reasons to doubt Konstantin's story. Why have this discussion on the roof of the Bitter Pill office in the first place? Konstantin, arguably the Twelve's most self-serving employee, spends much of the season attempting to cover his tracks, and Kenny was a possible loose end. But according to Villanelle, Konstantin gets others to do his dirty work for him.
7 Will Niko Return?
Niko's evolution from loving husband, teacher and avid chess player to mental patient to finally, a bread deliveryman in Poland has been a bleak journey.
He is used as a pawn to drive a wedge (unsuccessfully) between Eve and Villanelle. Niko will never be more than collateral damage. The last time viewers see him, he's recovering from having a pitchfork driven into his neck by Dasha, and he tells his wife to piss off forever. But by sparing his life, the door is open for Niko to return and possibly complicate things for Eve and Villanelle.
6 What's Next For Villanelle And Eve?
There has been an erotic element to Eve and Villanelle's relationship from the jump, and by the series finale, they are acting like lovers who just haven't quite sealed the deal. At this point, both women are lost.
They've blown up each other's lives, so by the finale, they are irrevocably changed. But at their cores, they are still the same as when the series started. This relationship has to move forward because ending it isn't an option, and there's only so much more will-they-or-won't-they the audience will endure. But despite Eve embracing her inner monster and Villanelle trying to squash hers, they will always end up on opposite sides.
5 What Is Up With The Twelve?
The Twelve remains the tie that binds the main characters, but after three seasons, there a still a ton of question marks surrounding the organization. They kill a lot of people, but to what end? By leaving so much about the Twelve ambiguous, it means that just about anyone and everyone could be working for them or be affiliated with them in some way.
It's safe to assume the Twelve are focused on acquiring or keeping power. Dasha refers to the shopkeeper Villanelle kills as an "agitator," which could mean they have political clout as well. Hopefully the ultimate reveal isn't a let-down.
4 Is Konstantin Kenny's Father?
A plot point that got lost in the shuffle is the question of whether or not Konstantin could be Kenny's father. Carolyn confronts Konstantin during a harrowing inquisition in a speeding car, demanding to know about a phone conversation that occurred the night before Kenny's death. Konstantin claims Kenny wanted to know if he is his father, and it seems like a possibility since he doesn't know and Caroline abruptly drops him on the side of the road. It's more likely Kenny would be questioning Konstantin about the missing money, but this is still a huge bombshell that has yet to be confirmed or denied.
3 Will Carolyn Continue To Work For MI6?
Carolyn killed a fellow MI6 agent which would normally be a big deal, but nobody is going to know since she has already covered her bases. Will she return to business as usual, or is she going to go rogue? If she isn't mixed up with the Twelve, she's unlikely to trust anyone in the government agency. It's not as if she does anyway.
But as resourceful as Carolyn is, having MI6 to back her up is the wise play. Will her possible ties to the Twelve be confirmed? Will she join the bad guys? Will she sink into an Eve-like depression as she deals with the fact that she shot a man in cold blood?
2 What Will Happen To Irina?
It turns out Konstantin has been nurturing more than one killer. His daughter Irina — with some off-the-cuff urging by Villanelle — runs over her mother's boyfriend. Irina is sitting in jail, and with Konstantin's whereabouts unknown, it doesn't look like she'll be getting out soon unless the Twelve intervenes.
It's hard to ignore the parallels between Villanelle and Irina: both speak multiple languages, both had absentee dads, both are incredibly intelligent, and Villanelle was plucked from prison by the Twelve. It's obvious during season 2, she and Irina have a weird sibling rivalry relationship. Is it possible Irina will become Villanelle's pupil? Or will the Twelve simply use Irina to get to Konstantin?
1 What Is Next For Konstantin?
Konstantin escapes with his life and everything he needs to flee the country — except for his daughter. It's unclear if the Twelve knows he stole from them. There's nobody left who knew unless Paul told someone before he died.
No matter where Konstantin goes, he's going to be looking over his shoulder, and there's no doubt that because he has survived this long, he'll be back in season 4.
