After a brilliant opening season, Netflix released the second season of the show in 2017, which followed the events of an eventful season 1 finale. Some people in Hawkins pretty much know about the secrets of The Upside Down and that Will is back, but is he okay, or is he still haunted by the demons from the other dimension? Without further ado, let's rank every episode from the second outing of Stranger Things, according to IMDb.

9 "The Lost Sister" (6.1)

The seventh episode of season 2 is also the worst of the entire series. That's because there was no real story progression in the one hour, instead, it all felt like filler.

It's all about Eleven trying to find what really happened to her at the laboratory. And while doing so, she uncovers some truths about her - some of which might change her life forever.

8 "MADMAX" (8.3)

The first episode of season 2 sees Hawkins return to business as usual, with Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will playing at the Palace Arcade. While playing the game, they come across someone named MADMAX who seems to have the highest score.

Jim Hopper is called upon to investigate a field of rotten pumpkins, while Will is shown to be hallucinating. As the town prepares for Halloween, Nancy and Steve discuss their future, before a handsome looking man called Billy arrives at the school. Another new addition to the school is Maxine, who goes by the name of Max, so Lucas and Dustin think she is MADMAX. Back at home, Mike tries to connect with Eleven but to no avail, and towards the end of the episode, it is revealed that she is living with Hopper.

7 "Trick Or Treat, Freak" (8.4)

In the second episode of season 2, a flashback scene sees Eleven in front of a portal to The Upside Down, just after she finished with the Demogorgon. Back in the present, Hopper brings breakfast to Eleven and the latter wants to go out to the Halloween party.

Mike and the boys want Max to join them but that won't be easy when one has a stepbrother like Billy. He warns the kids to not come near his sister. At the party, Nancy and Steve have a fight and Dustin goes home to find something in his garbage bin.

6 "The Pollywog" (8.7)

In the third episode of season 2, Dustin names the creature he found in the dustbin Dart, while Eleven isn't happy with Hopper as she wants to go out of the cabin. Nancy and Jonathan gather the courage to tell Barb's parents the truth about her disappearance.

Will, still haunted by The Upside Down, is given some sound advice from Bob. In order to ascertain who the creature is, Dustin brings Dart to school before Will reveals that the creature is, in fact, a Demogorgon from The Upside Down. Eleven breaks Hopper's rule and goes on the search for Mike.

5 "Will The Wise" (8.7)

The fourth episode of season 2 sees Joyce, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas search for Will, only to find him down on the ground, as he is hallucinating the presence of The Shadow Monster. Hopper is angry with Eleven for going out of the cabin and all of this soon turns into a fight before Hopper finally apologizes.

Will, quite reluctantly, tells Joyce and Hopper that The Shadow Monster left a part of it inside him, so he knows everything about this world. Meanwhile, Hopper finally finds out the reason for the dead pumpkins in the field.

4 "Dig Dug" (8.9)

In the fifth episode of season 2, Hopper is in the vast underground network of The Upside Down and when he tries to escape, he finds out that the way back is blocked. Sensing the same from The Shadow Monster, Will tells Joyce that Hopper might be in danger.

Eleven goes to meet her mom, while Dustin continues looking for Dart, who is now confirmed to be a young Demogorgon. Moreover, Lucas goes to apologize to Max on behalf of the group for excluding her.

3 "The Spy" (9.2)

The sixth episode of season 2 begins with a tense scene as Will is rushed to the hospital after collapsing, but the doctors seem to have no idea about what's wrong with him. Jonathan and Nancy, along with Murray, find out the real reason behind Barb's death before Jonathan and Nancy have an intimate moment.

Dustin and Steve continue looking for Dart, but it's not easy to find a monster on the loose. Hopper finds out that the size of the portal has increased, while Will seems to be in deeper trouble than what everyone expected.

2 "The Mind Flayer" (9.3)

In the penultimate episode of season 2, the Demodogs are running wild in the Hawkins Laboratory, as Mike, Joyce, Will, Bob, and Hopper get trapped. On Mike's advice, Joyce agrees to sedate Will as he is giving info about The Shadow Monster.

Dustin, Mike, Max, and Steve meet up with Jonathan and Nancy, as all of them begin to search for Mike and Will. Meanwhile, Bob is able to get the power in the Hawkins Laboratory back on track, but at what cost?

1 "The Gate" (9.4)

The season 2 finale sees Mike and Eleven find each other again and after an emotional moment, Mike cannot contain his anger towards Hopper for hiding Eleven for so long.

But they have bigger problems to worry about - like the Demodogs going wild in Hawkins and The Shadow Monster trapping Will forever.
