The first official trailer for Marvel Studios' WandaVision Disney+ series is here. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to be quite different from the previous 3 Phases. Not only are some major characters gone, but Marvel Studios is moving to the small screen with multiple TV shows coming exclusively to Disney+. One of them will star Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) in WandaVision, which has been described as part sitcom, part MCU epic.
When WandaVision was originally announced in 2019, Marvel gave the show a spring 2021 release date. However, they revealed at the start of 2020 that WandaVision had been moved up to arrive this year instead. Marvel fans got the first look at the series just a few months later when footage for it and other MCU Disney+ shows was released during the Super Bowl. The brief look at the show has left many wanting more, and now it has arrived.
Marvel Studios and Disney have released the first official trailer for WandaVision. With a run time of one minute and twenty seconds, the trailer is closer to length to a teaser than a full trailer. But, the new look at WandaVision still offers plenty of exciting teases at what is to come. Marvel also released the first official poster, which can be seen below.
Based on this first look, there are several aspects of WandaVision that are sure to catch the attention of fans. For starters, the descriptions of it being half sitcom, half MCU epic look to be accurate, as parts of the trailer show how WandaVision will replicate sitcom TV shows, while other footage teases the bigger story. Vision's death in Avengers: Infinity War will be a key part of the show undoubtedly, as Wanda doesn't appear interested in thinking about real life, and Vision isn't aware of his demise. The trailer also provides the first look at Kathryn Hahn's Agnes (as she's named in the trailer's closed captions) and grown-up Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris).
In addition to the exciting contents of the trailer, the timing of its release is also promising for MCU fans hoping to get some content in 2020. There were already recent signs that WandaVision was still on track to be released this year, and the start of the marketing campaign further points to this being true. Marvel Studios normally likes to start promoting their movies six months or so before they're released, but Disney+ operates differently. For instance, the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2 just arrives last week and the show is coming out in October. This doesn't mean that WandaVision will come out in a similar time frame, but it is unlikely Marvel would start promoting the show if they weren't confident it can arrive soon. With the marketing only saying that it is "coming soon," hopefully it won't be too long before WandaVision's release date is confirmed too.
