Colin Firth Starring In Zombie Comedy New York Will Eat You Alive

Colin Firth will star in the upcoming zombie comedy tentatively titled New York Will Eat You Alive. Based on the Chinese digital comic and animation franchise Zombie Brother, the movie will follow the comic's storyline about a group of New Yorkers trying to survive a zombie apocalypse while also uncovering the source of the outbreak. While most American audiences may have never heard of Zombie Brother before, it's enormously popular in Asia, with the comic amassing over 28 billion views and the animated series garnering 3.7 billion views across the first two seasons.

Deadline broke the news that Colin Firth will star in New York Will Eat You Alive. While no other cast announcements have been made, Todd Strauss-Schulson, whose film credits include A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas and Isn't It Romantic, will direct the adaptation. The screenplay was penned by Alex Rubens, while Channing Tatum will produce alongside STXfilms and Tencent, the Chinese tech giant that publishes the comic. STX is set to handle U.S. distribution of the film and Tencent will oversee the release in China.

Firth is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having already starred in the first two Kingsman movies based on the comic created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. He's also carved out a successful path in prestige pictures, a journey that ostensibly started with The English Patient in 1996 and peaked with an Oscar win for the historical drama The King's Speech, which also won Best Picture and is still considered one of the best films of 2010. With the Kingsman movies ranking among the most financially successful movies of his career, it will be interesting to see if more niche genre fare like New York Will Eat You Alive continues Firth's hot streak at the box office.
