Stranger Things Season 4 Is David Harbour's Favorite

David Harbour says that Stranger Things season 4 is his favorite. Harbour plays police chief Jim Hopper on the show. When viewers last saw the character, he was being held prisoner in Russia. When the third season ended, the core group in Hawkins, Indiana, was fractured and fans are still eagerly awaiting the follow-up.

Stranger Things season 4 has faced a slew of delays because of the coronavirus pandemic. Production halted in March 2020 before resuming in September. There's still no word on when the fourth season will premiere, but the Stranger Things writer's room has steadily teased new developments. Now Harbour is talking about the highly anticipated season as fans eagerly await any news about the impending release.

Harbour told People a little bit of what fans can expect from season 4 in a new interview. The actor, who will be seen next in May's Black Widow, says that the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, are very attuned to what fans need and want, but that they also push back a little bit to add their own ideas and twists into the mix. Harbour went on to talk about his character specifically, saying that the new season shows Hopper in a different light, making this his favorite season yet.

[The show's creators, The Duffer Brothers are] very responsive to the fan response, [but also] a step ahead with the script. [You will] see a lot of your favorite characters doing the thing that you love them for ... but you'll also see them twist it and turn it into other colors and other flavors. And one of the great things that you can see with Hopper is that he was a protector, he's a man of justice [and] he now has become a prisoner. He's trapped and he's isolated. And we get to see an entirely other color of him that has been hinted at. ...This season is my favorite because he really is going to show you some new colors and what he's really made up of.

Stranger Things is Netflix's biggest original show and the wait between seasons can be excruciating for fans of the series. Season 3 bowed over a year ago, in July 2019, and while Netflix may have been eyeing an early 2021 release, that's clearly no longer in the cards. They surely won't want to wait another year before releasing the show, so while there's no word yet on when it will be released, a summer or fall release is likely if production stays on track.

Theories abound as to what will happen to Hopper and how he will escape Russian imprisonment once the new season is released. With the Hawkins group in disarray after Will Byers and Eleven leave the small Indiana town, season 4 is shaping up to be more expansive than ever. Just how the Duffer brothers will tie all of these threads together is likely to make up the bulk of the season and if the past is any indication, they'll be able to pull it off. Stranger Things has made a habit of going bigger and bolder with each season and the upcoming fourth season will have to meet those expectations, especially after such a long wait. According to Harbour, it sounds like they may have.
