The new Lilo & Stitch Honest Trailer humorously compares the Stitch character to Gollum and a Minion. Released in 2002, Lilo & Stitch follows Stitch, a blue dog-like alien who crash lands in Hawaii after escaping a galactic federation that created him solely to sow chaos and destruction. He eventually meets Lilo, a young Hawaiian girl who adopts Stitch and ultimately protects him from two aliens, Dr. Jumba and Agent Pleakley, who visit Earth to retrieve him. Despite being seen as more manic than Disney Animation Studios's classic productions, the movie proved critically and commercially successful, grossing $273 million at the box office and spawning a franchise that includes an upcoming Disney+ remake.
Lilo & Stitch's peculiar story and wild tone inspired Screen Junkies to make an Honest Trailer, which pointedly compares Stitch to characters from two other popular franchises. It specifically calls Stitch's speaking manner a cross between Gollum's creepy, nasal voice in The Lord of the Rings franchise and the Minions' gobbledygook in the Despicable Me franchise. The trailer also makes light of the film's other strange choices, such as giving Dr. Jumba a Russian accent and casually glossing over mass murder on several occasions. Check it out below:
Fans enthusiastic to prep for the live-action remake are sure to revisit the 2002 classic available to stream on Disney+. Many aspects of Lilo & Stitch have not aged well, as is the case with most animated Disney classics. Hopefully, the creative team behind the upcoming remake finds inventive ways to bring the chaotic, abrasive story into the modern era.
