Elizabeth Olsen’s Mom Has Been Calling Her the Wrong Marvel Name For 4 Years

Elizabeth Olsen's mom has been calling her the wrong Marvel name for four years. The WandaVision star has played Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch ever since the character's first appearance in a post-credits scene in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Although Olsen has been playing the character for years, Wanda's official Marvel superhero name of the Scarlet Witch wasn't said canonically in the MCU until last week's episode of WandaVision, thanks to another witch.

It was Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) who had the honor of calling Wanda the Scarlet Witch for the first time in WandaVision episode 8, "Previously On." Agatha had finally revealed herself to Wanda as a witch who had been trying to snap Wanda out of her grief-induced Westview fantasy hex (this big reveal was set to the catchy tune "Agatha All Along," which quickly went viral). After forcing Wanda to revisit her past trauma, from the bomb that killed her parents to viewing Vision's dismantled body at the S.W.O.R.D headquarters, Agatha finally concluded who Wanda really was. "You have no idea how dangerous you are...You're supposed to be a myth, capable of spontaneous creation...This is chaos magic, Wanda. That makes you the Scarlet Witch!"

Olsen revealed a hilarious mistake her mom had been making during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonAccording to the actress, her mom had been accidentally calling her the wrong Marvel name for four years. She said:

"My mom just told me the other day that she's been calling me the 'Red Witch' for the last...she said four years, but I think I've been doing this for like six or seven...And she just learned that I was called the Scarlet Witch last week...She was like, 'Why didn't you ever correct me?' And I just told her, 'I just thought you were making a joke. I didn't know that's what you thought my name was!"

Olsen's mom's Marvel mistake was totally harmless yet absolutely hilarious. The question is, where does Wanda Maximoff go from here? Will she embrace her identity as the Scarlet Witch in the WandaVision finale? Will she don a new Scarlet Witch costume like the one she saw in the vision the Mind Stone showed her? What does the Scarlet Witch name drop mean for Wanda's confirmed appearance in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness?

There are a lot of questions that episode nine of WandaVision may or may not answer. What has been confirmed from the show director Matt Shakman is that there will be no surprise tenth episode of WandaVisionHowever, this show has always been Wanda's story, an exploration of her grief and her path to truly becoming the Scarlet Witch. The possibilities for where Wanda Maximoff can go from the WandaVision finale onwards are endless and very exciting.
