2021 is set to be a pretty big year for the Pokémon Company. Nintendo has a number of big plans for fans to enjoy throughout 2021, with perhaps a broader series of events, games, and TV show releases than ever before. As audiences look to the future with the hope of sequel plans for Detective Pikachu, there's still a lot to enjoy in the current year.

The recent streaming event which Nintendo hosted gave fans a glimpse of what else was to come throughout the year. Fans were ready to revel in all of these exciting announcements, many of which were especially rewarding for those who have stuck with the franchise for some time.

10 25th Anniversary

2021 actually marks the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise itself. This is, therefore, a time for celebration and reflection, with a number of big moments rumored and planned for fans to enjoy throughout the festivities of this monumental occasion.

It's a huge achievement for any video game series to last this long, but what's special about Pokémon is that it hasn't only experienced a number of successes, but it has also managed to reinvent itself countless times for new generations and different platforms.

9 P25 Album

For the 25th anniversary, the company has devised an album that has become known as P25This is a musical experience that looks to continue to celebrate some of Pokémon's greatest moments throughout the years, alongside some huge stars.

This is a compilation album that will release in the fall headed by J. Balvin. A number of other artists have signed on to the project to create their own unique songs honoring the Pokémon legacy including Katy Perry and Post Malone.

8 Live Concert

Speaking of Pokémon music in 2021, a live concert has also been a part of the celebrations and may continue with a number of others being devised down the line. The digital experience is a stay-at-home event featuring the musical talents of Post Malone.

The event is a bit of a first for the Pokémon Company, who are thinking outside of the box in order to mark 25 years of the franchise. Music has always been such a huge part of the brand, especially considering the animated show's iconic themes.

7 McDonald's Exclusives

Plenty of huge brands have worked alongside the fast-food restaurant McDonald's over the years, and Pokémon has been no exception in the past. Between February 9th and March 8th, fans can get their hands on exclusive products from McDonald's happy meals.

There are four variations of trading card games that fans can pick up from their restaurants. Obviously, this is meant as a tribute to the wildly-successful Pokémon Trading Card game that helped to spur on the success of the franchise.

6 New Pokémon Snap

Pokémon Snap is certainly not a new concept, with a variation of the game appearing in the past on consoles like the Nintendo 64. There are always exciting remakes and reboots in the works in the gaming industry, and, for 2021 Pokémon has a few of its own up its sleeve.

Making its way to the Nintendo Switch is a brand new version of Pokémon Snap which is set to release on April 30th of this year. The photography game encourages players to observe the Pokémon in their natural habitat and snap pictures of them in a revised version of the original.

5 Multiple Pokémon Go Updates

Of course, there's an ongoing experience for players to jump into throughout the year, which is set to have its own series of events to celebrate the anniversary of the brand. Pokémon Go is still going strong and will look to continue its updates in 2021.

Not only will more evolution types and Pokémon be added to the game throughout the year, but it will also continue to see improvements to gameplay, alongside new community events, and, of course, countless raids and battles involving the villainous Team Rocket in a new season of events.

4 Pokémon Go Kanto Tour

In regards to Pokémon Go, there has also been a mega event that saw fans return to Generation I Pokémon, as they seek to catch them all in a single day. The Kanto Tour-themed event took place on February 2oth 2021.

The event was a great success and may have opened the door for others of a similar fashion throughout the year for the other Generations. Players had to catch all 150 original Pokémon before the timer ran out in a organized session which players had to pay to participate in that reflected on the past of the franchise.

3 Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl

The hits continue to come as the Pokémon Company and Nintendo also announced the return of a much-loved edition of the brand's past, with Diamond and Pearl looking to get their own remakes for Nintendo Switch in late 2021.

The previous Nintendo DS games will now be retitled Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to separate them from the original video games and will allow players to go through that original narrative arc which saw fans travel across the Sinnoh Region, capturing Generation IV Pokémon.

2 Secrets Of The Jungle

While Secrets Of The Jungle has already had an international release in 2020, with the Ash anime film originally marketed in Asian territories, the movie will be making its way to North America in 2021.

The franchise has a long list of memorable films under its belt and Secrets Of The Jungle looks to be no different. The movie is based on a young boy who grows up in the jungle surrounded by Pokémon, exploring the bond between man and monster.

1 Development Of Legends: Arceus

While not set to release until 2022, 2021 will be a big year for the development and consistent reveals of a brand new type of game coming to the Pokémon line. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a completely different experience coming to Nintendo Switch.

Acting as a prequel to Diamond and Pearl and therefore set in the Sinnoh Region, this is an open-world game that allows players to explore this fantastic world completely uninhibited. It's a bold new step for Nintendo, and it's one that will see players battle and catch Pokémon in new ways.
