March 31st has become a day of infamy for many Nintendo fans. It's the day when Nintendo's fiscal year ends, but it's also the day when several Mario products are being pulled off the shelves or taken offline. This includes Super Mario Bros. 35 and Super Mario 3D All-Stars, the former being killed entirely after March 31st and latter being pulled from even the eShop after that day. It's become common to refer to March 31st as the day Mario dies due to this ultimatum.
With March 31st being close to a week away, Nintendo is selling various pieces of Mario merchandise on the Japan storefront bundled with copies of the game. This includes a mug, a notepad, and a towel, all decked out to celebrate Mario's 35th anniversary. Nintendo Life's translation of the page shows that these products will also be taken down by March 31st, and that they will be available in limited quantity. So if fans want to buy them, now is the time to do so.
Though the humor in Mario dying on the 31st is definitely present, the issue of products being available for a limited time is still a long-term problem for video game fans. While limited time games have already faced a lot of backlash, limited stock in merchandise has also been a concern for those who wish to amass collections in honor of their favorite video games. Products such as Amiibo are often sold in limited quantity before quickly selling out, and even Nintendo Switch consoles have also occasionally struggled with staying in stock, albeit not to the same extent as the PS5. Scalpers are just one cause of limited stock quickly going out, making it difficult for fans to get their hands on various products.
As a result of the limited quantity of these products, it's likely this merchandise will increase in value just like physical copies of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. This could make them very difficult to obtain, yet this could also cause a profit for those selling these items. The issue of limited merchandise will likely still continue, but for the time being, should fans want to buy a copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars before the game's demise, these bonuses provide the perfect opportunity to do so.
