Potential spoilers for Heroes Reborn #1 ahead!
Since joining the Avengers, Blade has struggled to find his place on the team, and now in a world without either the Avengers, or the vampires he hunts, Blade will be once again be forced to redefine himself in the world of superheroes as seen in a special preview for Heroes Reborn #1 on sale May 5 in print and digital.
Blade first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #10 and has been on the trail of vampires in the Marvel Universe ever since. His mission forces him to work on the fringes of the superhero community, but after the Vampire Civil War arc that ran through Avengers #14-17, Blade joined the Avengers on a full-time basis. Ever since he has questioned his place amongst the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Blade’s out-of-the-box thinking proved a huge asset for the team during the King in Black event, and most recently he used his Avengers clout to become the “sheriff” of the newly formed Vampire Nation. But in the world of Heroes Reborn, neither vampires nor the Avengers are anywhere to be found, leaving Blade rudderless.
The preview for Heroes Reborn #1 - written by Jason Aaron with art by Ed McGuinness, inks by Mark Morales, colors by Matthew Wilson, and letters by Cory Petit - opens with Blade bringing readers up to speed on this new world. He tells readers there are no Avengers and no vampires. Blade is clearly shaken by this, saying this world is better than the original, a fact that scares him. He is quick to point out this world does have problems of its own - such as the Doctor Doom/Juggernaut mash-up that attacks the White House - and that this world has its own heroes: the Squadron Supreme, whose leader Hyperion comes to stop Doctor Juggernaut in the preview pages right here:
The preview ends there, so readers do not see how the fight goes, or what else Blade may have discovered, but it is clear this new world has rocked Blade to his core. He remarks on more than one occasion about the absence of both vampires and the Avengers, and it seems without them, he is lost. His struggle in the world of Heroes Reborn mirrors the one he goes through in the Avengers - namely, how does a vampire hunter work alongside the likes of Captain America, Thor, and Black Panther? It seems that not Blade will have to ask himself how a vampire hunter can work without those allies.
Heroes Reborn will redefine Blade’s place in both the Avengers and the Marvel Universe as a whole, and readers can see the first steps in Heroes Reborn #1.
