Warning! Spoilers ahead for Infinite Frontier #1!
In the first issue of DC's Infinite Frontier miniseries, Barry Allen aka the Flash just walked onto the universe's greatest crime scene. Darkseid is back and has never been more powerful. He is fully reconstituted with all the past versions of himself, forming the ultimate Darkseid. The threat that DC's heroes face is enormous. But what's even worse is that they aren't aware of Darkseid's return. However, the Flash has already found out about Darkseid's plans for a new Crisis, although he's unable to share anything quite yet.
Preparing for his return, as revealed in this issue, Darkseid is teaming up with Psycho-Pirate. The reason for Psycho-Pirate being Darkseid's new minion is probably because of his power set, as his ability to telepathically control people's emotions is a great tool to gain allegiance to Darkseid's crusade in the coming conflict. Readers see this power in full effect as Flash is now working with Psycho-Pirate and Darkseid. Normally, Barry would never work with any villains, but with Psycho-Pirate's powers, he's forced to, demonstrating that Darkseid has a very manipulative ace up his sleeve.
In Infinite Frontier #1 by Joshua Williamson and Xermanico, Flash finds the bodies of the Quintessence. This happens as Flash vibrates through all of the multiverse's Earths, eventually landing on Earth-Omega. Although Barry recorded a memo about his experiment designed to reach the mystery planet, he never actually told anyone of his plans. Therefore, it's possible that Barry will be stuck for a long time and nobody will know where he is. On arrival, Flash stumbles across the Quintessence, where he questions who would be powerful enough to kill literal gods? Shortly after this, he finds out about Darkseid and his plans for a new Crisis.
The Quintessence is a group of god-like beings who watch over the multiverse. They bear witness to every moment; past, present or future. After the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, the Quintessence claimed that the Multiverse had been restored and that they sensed no new threats. At the end of Infinite Frontier #0, it's revealed that they secretly trapped the universe's greatest threat, Darkseid, on Earth-Omega. However, somehow Darkseid manages to break free from his prison, catching the Quintessence off guard and killing them. In this issue, a couple of weeks have passed since their death, according to Flash, who is shocked to witness the dead bodies of DC's gods.
Barry Allen is only beginning his dark and inescapable journey as he is manipulated and controlled by Psycho-Pirate, under the direction of Darkseid. The villains intend to use Flash to find someone specific whom they are looking for, before enacting the first stages of Darkseid's Crisis plans. What's coming is teased to be bigger than even Crisis on Infinite Earths. DC's heroes must prepare for Darkseid's impending attack, but will Flash be able to warn them before it's too late? Infinite Frontier #1 is available in comic book stores and on digital platforms now.
