Call of Duty: Vanguard's Best Loadouts (& How to Make Them)

Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. Loadouts are an important part of preparing for any Call of Duty: Vanguard match, and they dictate what weapons, equipment, and perks players will have at their disposal. Call of Duty players know just how important it is to have a quality loadout, as weapon balance in the game can be a little suspect. Not only that, but players can end up in situations where they simply end up getting picked off at range when they aren't equipped to fire back accurately.

There is a massive variety of weapons in Call of Duty: Vanguard, from shotguns to snipers, pistols to assault rifles.  Each weapon type has an optimal range at which they are effective, and different circumstances under which they can thrive. In any given match, players can find themselves getting stuck in the same situations over and over, like being pinned down by a sniper every time they get into open space. Even close-range SMG fans need to have diverse loadouts to ensure that they can switch up their plan on a dime to get out of sticky predicaments.

To create loadouts, players can go to the Weapons tab in the Main Menu. Once in the Weapons menu, players can click "Loadouts," which will open up a list of their custom loadouts. From this page, players can change these loadouts, choosing the weapons, perks, and gadgets included in them.

While many players focus on fine-tuning one specific loadout in Call of Duty: Vanguard, it is also important to make sure that they have a loadout that matches each of the most vital playstyles. These loadouts should cover all of the common in-game situations and combat ranges. There are three that are 100% necessary to have on-hand to ensure Vanguard players don't get caught off-guard:

  • Run-and-Gun SMG
  • Mid-Range AR
  • Sniper

These cover every possible range at which combat can take place, and take advantage of many of Call of Duty: Vanguard's most powerful weapons, and every player should be ready to challenge enemies at all of them.

This Call of Duty: Vanguard loadout is meant for close-ranged, highly-mobile combat. As its name insists, players will use this loadout when they are looking to hunt down enemies quickly, get the jump on them, and spray them down before they have a chance to react. Typically, the main weapon is a submachine gun, and the secondary weapon is either a pistol or a knife, depending on the preference of the user. Perks that improve mobility and target acquisition are preferred.

This is a great all-around loadout in Call of Duty: Vanguard, with the fully-automatic fire providing damage that is effective at short-to-medium ranges. This allows players to take a steadier pace in-game, and kill more targets in open space. The primary weapon is always an AR, like the STG44, and the secondary weapon is usually a pistol. Perks here are up to user preference, but ones that increase damage resistance are helpful since players are more likely to be roaming open areas of the map.

The Sniper loadout is obviously great for those who enjoy long-range combat, but also for players who are stuck in a game wherein a player is abusing long-range angles and accurate CoD weapons. The primary weapon is a sniper rifle, and the secondary is usually a pistol. In some cases, players may choose to take the Overkill perk to allow them to be able to run a second primary weapon, like an SMG or an AR, so they can take care of a pesky enemy sniper and then go back to their normal style of play.
