Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu: How to Increase Odds of Shiny Pokemon

The world of Pokemon can easily overcome gamers with the depth of capturable critters founding roaming throughout it, which is why Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu are refreshing in a way. Only the original 151 Pocket Monsters (combined with two brand new and never-before-seen Pokemon in the forms of Meltan and its evolved form Melmetal) complete the cast for the new Nintendo Switch games, making it much easier to round out the games' Pokedex – but there is another goal hopeful players can take on in order to make their friends a little more envious of their collection.

Shiny variants have been present in the core Pokemon titles since Gold and Silver Versions first arrived on the Game Boy Color back in 1999. These albino-inspired variants provide fans with different colors for some of their favorite in-game creatures, but the odds of locating them are roughly 1 in every 4,096 encounters. Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu are no exception to this game of odds, but there is actually a way for players to easily increase the chances of Shiny Pokemon appearing in the wild.

The method is known as chaining amongst core fans, and it happens within Let's Go whenever players capture the same type of Pokemon back-to-back. Fortuitously enough, the game will keep track of this "Catch Combo" to help ease the process. The more users catch these beasts, the higher the odds will climb of a shiny Pokemon or even one with Perfect IVs (making it better for battling) arriving on-screen.

Using Catch Combos for Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu

  • Catch Combo 1-10: 0 Perfect IVs and a 1/4,096 shiny chance
  • Catch Combo 11-20: 2 Perfect IVs and a 1/1024 shiny chance
  • Catch Combo 21-30: 3 Perfect IVs and a 1/512 shiny chance
  • Catch Combo 31+: 4 Perfect IVs and 1/341.3 shiny chance

Those concerned about breaking the combo should note that they can select 'Run' from a wild encounter and still maintain their chain if they accidentally walk into a different creature and kickstart an unplanned battle. They can also battle other trainers without destroying the Catch Combo. In fact, after hitting 31 chained captures, players are free to walk around until a shiny Pokemon spawns. And, since they appear in the overworld as shinies, eager collectors will be adding these sparkly variants to their team in no time.

Players patient enough to hold off on shiny hunting until they've completed the game can further increase the odds with an items called the Shiny Charm that can be obtained after they've finished their Pokedex. Additionally, the odds can be heightened even more if trainers use a Lure, which only raises the chances for a shiny for anyone following the Catch Combo guidelines to 1/315.08.

Of course, if a user has a Catch Combo of 31, is using a lure, and has the Shiny Charm then the odds of finding a shiny Pokemon becomes 1 in 273.07. Understandably, that's considerably better than 1 in 4,096, so this is an important tip for Pokemon Let's Go players. Now, go on and catch 'em all... again.
