Friends: 10 Times Ross Made Life Harder For Himself | ScreenRant

Ross Gellar may have begun a down-on-his-luck guy, but as time went on, things in Ross's life changed. Ross was moving on from his divorce with Carol as his feelings for Rachel reignited. Everyone had good and bad moments throughout the ten seasons of Friends, but there were plenty of moments that Ross was really the creator of (not the victim).

Ross was responsible for many of the negative things that happened to him, even if he refused to admit his part in the ordeal. While not everything wrong that happened to Ross was his fault, some of it certainly was because of him.

10 The Tanning Accident

Ross was very proud of his college degree, something he often brought up in conversation even when no one asked. He loved to consider himself a doctor, and due to his intellect, Ross did not respond well to others giving him instructions. Therefore, when Ross decided to get a tan as Monica had, Ross refused to ask questions, then ignored the employee's directions on what to do in the tanning booth. Ross's choice resulted in Ross ending up with the front of his body tan and the back its natural color, with a straight line to show the difference down the center of Ross' body.

9 The Couch

Choosing to avoid the professional moving fee of bringing a couch to his apartment, Ross decided he and Rachel could do it themselves. However, without an elevator, carrying the furniture up the narrow staircase was more difficult than Ross believed, and while the two bring Chandler into it, their attempts still fail.

Ross later brought the couch back to the store, claiming it had been delivered in the broken state the three had left it. Yes, the delivery cost was significant, but as a grown man Ross should have been willing to just pay it, rather than risking this ridiculousness.

8 The List

When Ross finds it challenging to choose between Julie and Rachel, he finds a way to work it out. Along with Joey and Chandler, Ross makes a pro and con list of each woman to compare them and determine which Ross likes more. While the list does work to help Ross make a choice, he does not understand the negatives of creating such a list until Rachel discovers what is written about her. The list puts off Ross and Rachel getting together in the aftermath of finding what Ross secretly thought of her.

7 Fake Funeral

A prank between Ross and Chandler goes too far when Chandler claims Ross died in a blimp accident. Instead of correcting the comment, Ross agrees with it, setting up a fake memorial for himself to see how many college alumni come to pay respects after no one responds on the website. He later sees the mistake in his choice when only one person shows up for him, and he ruins it by rushing out and exclaiming about how he was alive. Rightly, the woman leaves, disgusted with Ross's actions, not believing she used to like him.

6 The Wrong Name

The cliffhanger that left everyone on the edge of their seat found Ross saying Rachel's name during his wedding to Emily. Although Ross had not said Rachel's name intentionally, it was still an act on his part that caused several problems between him and Emily. Not only was that awful enough, but the two continue with the ceremony anyway, starting their marriage on the wrong foot.

Yet, things get worse when Ross invites Rachel to join him in Greece, his honeymoon with Emily. The drama between Ross, Emily, and Rachel lasts until Ross and Emily get divorced, but it doesn't end there either. The divorce with Emily also left Ross briefly homeless, causing him to move in with Joey and Chandler.

5 Rachel's Letter

This was a situation that was handled the wrong way by all parties involved. Rachel created a letter to Ross that he would need to finish to discuss them getting back together instead of having a conversation with Ross. Eager to get back together with Rachel but too tired to read the letter, Ross lies about completing the letter when Rachel asks. While Ross blames the length of the letter on why he could not finish it, both Ross and Rachel were at fault for the way their relationship quickly fell apart.

4 The Annulment

A drunken wedding to Rachel in Las Vegas results in Ross's third marriage. Ross and Rachel are both horrified when they realize what happened, and Ross is the one to suggest getting an annulment rather than a divorce. Yet, Ross is also the one who was unable to go through with asking for an annulment, determined not to have three failed marriages. His actions force Rachel to unknowingly be married to Ross until she learns the truth and forces them to go through with the separation. Ross' lie stops him and Rachel from moving in together when Monica and Chandler decide to move their relationship forward. Instead of the annulment they wanted, Ross and Rachel were forced to get a divorce, giving Ross three divorces.

3 Anniversary Chaos

Sometimes Ross can't take no for an answer, and his decisions create mayhem for Rachel. Finally, in a job she likes, Rachel tries hard to do well even when it means working late. Unfortunately, one night she has to work late is Ross and Rachel's first anniversary. Rachel explains to Ross that she is busy and repeatedly tells him not to show up at her office.

Choosing not to listen, Ross shows up anyway with a picnic basket and the determination to get Rachel's attention away from her work and on him. While trying to get Rachel away from her job, Ross starts a small fire at Rachel's desk.

2 The Copy Girl

The action that leads to Ross and Rachel's big break up was sleeping with Chloe, the copy girl. Convinced that his relationship with Rachel was over, Ross slept with Chloe. However, after realizing that Rachel wanted to fix their relationship and get back together, Ross was quick to agree, leaving out that he had been with Chloe and that she was still in the apartment. Afterward, Chandler and Joey convince Ross that Rachel never needs to know about his actions and that Ross has to follow the trail of people that Chloe may have told to prevent Rachel from finding out. As things would have it, Ross is too late, and Rachel not only discovers what Ross had done, but that he had lied about it.

1 Jealousy

Ross and Rachel attribute their break-up to the "We were on a break" justification of Ross sleeping with Chloe. But, their relationship was struggling before Chloe was a factor. Before there was Chloe, there was Mark. Rachel did not have a romantic interest in Mark and made that clear several times. Instead of trusting Rachel, Ross became jealous and possessive of Rachel, allowing the green monster to infect him and affect his every decision. Ross doesn't give Rachel time to explain why Mark is at her apartment after their argument and insisted that Mark's feelings for Rachel may have been reciprocated. Yet, Rachel and Monica both tell Ross that just because Mark may want to be with Rachel, it doesn't mean he gets to.
