Fall Guys Nintendo Switch Release Date Set For Summer 2021

During today's Nintendo Direct, publisher Devolver Digital and developer Mediatonic confirmed plans to bring Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout to the Nintendo Switch sometime this summer. The incredibly fun multiplayer title hit PC via Steam and PlayStation 4 late last summer, and instantly became an overnight success.

So meteoric was Fall Guys' rise that it took the crown of most downloaded PS Plus game of all time after just a few weeks. And the game has continued to grow in popularity in the many months since then. Its ability to maintain momentum is due in large part to two key factors - Mediatonic's game-changing social media presence and the studio's regular updates to the main game. In fact, the most recent update of note went live earlier this month with the advent of Season 3.5, which ushered in 40-plus round remixes, a new stage, and several extra costumes.

During a rather special Nintendo Direct, Devolver Digital and Mediatonic shared news of an upcoming Fall Guys port for Nintendo Switch. A cleverly designed trailer filled with Switch-wielding fun is what confirmed the desires of many a Switch owner, though details about its release are limited for the time being. According to the trailer in question, Fall Guys will hit the Nintendo handheld this year during the summer months. A firm launch date hasn't been announced as of yet, however.

Given the few details on display in the above announcement, it's possible there are still a few kinks to work out. For instance, can players expect to immediately jump into the winter wonderland excitement of Season 3, or should a waiting period of some sort be expected? That much should become clearer in the lead up to launch, of course.

A battle royale title, Fall Guys pits 60 players against one another in a series of elimination rounds that are modeled after obstacle courses. Fall Guys has proven to be a great party game, which means it's joining excellent company on Nintendo hardware this summer. By then, other updates will have undoubtedly gone live on PC and PlayStation platforms. At the time of writing, however, Mediatonic hasn't so much as teased what it may have in store for Fall Guys' next batch of content. As one of 2020's most exciting battle royale experiences, it'll be interesting to see how the game fares long-term.
