Scrubs: JD And Dr. Cox & 9 Other Best Character Pairings On The Show, Ranked

Scrubs is a fantastic show. While it obviously works as a comedy, it is also a hard-hitting drama revolving around topics like death, illness, redemption, and regret. The comedy is both kooky and often fantastical (complete with JD's elaborate imagination sequences), and the drama helps bring things down to Earth whenever the show gets too wacky.

Of course, none of this would work without a stellar cast of characters at the heart of the show. The character pairings - whether romantic or not - are often brilliant, and each brings a little something to the show. These are the best of the best.

10 JD & Cox

Perhaps the greatest relationship of them all is the one between JD and Cox. This wonderful relationship works on multiple levels. There's the funny, antagonistic side, as Cox often berates JD and calls him girl names. There's the tender side, as Cox acts as a mentor, reassures JD in his times of stress and confusion, and teaches him various things about life and medicine. Finally, there's the working relationship, as JD is the only doctor that Cox genuinely respects and admires.

9 JD & Elliot

JD and Elliot are a fun and interesting pairing - both as friends and eventually romantic partners. Unfortunately, the pairing gets a little bogged down in "will they won't they" trappings that are found in virtually every sitcom ever made. Luckily, the couple eventually finds their footing and settle down together. Both are very loving and supporting people, and even the will they won't they stuff of earlier seasons proved fun and cute. They are also at the center of what could very well be the sexiest make-out session in television history, so there's that as well.

8 Cox & Jordan

Cox and Jordan are perfect for each other. Both can be incredibly hostile to other people, both aren't particularly well-liked by the hospital employees, and both are emotionally closed off and cold. However, these traits bring out the best in each other, and despite a constant barrage of fighting, Cox and Jordan are actually quite a cute couple. They drop the cold exteriors when together and aren't afraid to open themselves up to each other, and when they're together in public, they serve as the most fearsome duo on the show.

7 Cox & Kelso

Cox is arguably the show's greatest character, as he is written and performed to absolute perfection. He shares enjoyable relationships with many supporting and major characters - one of them being Kelso. Cox and Kelso are mostly antagonistic towards each other, with Cox hating Kelso's greed and selfishness and Kelso believing Cox to be too caring and emotionally attached. They serve as great thematic foils to each other, with each bringing a certain unique viewpoint to the hospital.

6 Kelso & Elliot

For pure comedy, it's hard to beat the pairing of Kelso and Elliot. Kelso could hate Elliot even more than he hates Cox, and he isn't afraid to let her know it.

He often berates her in public, is quick to point out her many mistakes, and even makes fun of her personal life on occasion. In earlier seasons, Elliot is literally afraid to open her mouth lest she makes a mistake or say something dumb and suffer the wrath of Kelso. Suffice to say, the two don't share many tender moments together.

5 JD & The Janitor

JD and The Janitor serve as one of the most popular Scrubs pairings. JD inadvertently makes himself an enemy of the Janitor on his very first day, and their relationship remains antagonistic throughout much of the series. While JD often puts forth an effort and attempts to make conversation, the Janitor is never having it and often treats JD poorly - complete a little dose of physical and emotional abuse. While JD is more passive, the Janitor actively tries to make JD's life miserable. On one occasion, the Janitor even kidnapped JD and locked him in a water tower.

4 Kelso & Ted

Scrubs is full of fantastic supporting characters, but Ted may be the funniest of them all. A sorry excuse for a man and a lawyer, Ted is widely regarded as the resident sad sack. Part of that reputation is down to his constant belittling at the hands of Kelso. Ted mostly served as Kelso's punching bag and was often the subject of his vicious barbs and personal attacks. Working under Kelso resulted in Ted losing his hair, and he even harbors thoughts of suicide simply to escape Kelso's wrath and constant mistreatment.

3 Cox & Carla

Of all the people within the hospital, Carla may be the person that Cox respects the most. Sure, Cox gets along with JD on occasion, but he shares a very intimate and personal connection with Carla that he doesn't share with anyone else - including his own wife.

Many scenes between Cox and Carla are emotional in some capacity, as the two often see through each other's charades and help each other out when the other is feeling down. It's a beautiful relationship.

2 Turk & Carla

Carla's interactions with Cox are cute and all, but they have nothing on the scenes she shares with Turk. Turk and Carla are perhaps the most stable couple on the show, and while they certainly go through rough patches, they are often used as an example for other characters in their personal romantic lives. The two share a very special connection, with Carla even embracing Turk's childish personality and the deep love he shares for JD. Speaking of which...

1 JD & Turk

Viewers may question if Turk loves JD more than he loves Carla. Their bromance is made a running joke throughout the show, and their close connection is often commented upon by other supporting characters - particularly Carla and Cox. The two are certainly goofy and aloof, but they also display some moments of genuine tenderness - such as when they forgo steak night to comfort a dying patient. It's the bromance to end all bromances.
