Animal Crossing Mario Items Used To Create Rainbow Road Indoors

A Reddit user created Rainbow Road from Mario Kart inside his house with Mario items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Super Mario Bros.-themed items like coins, question blocks, flagpoles, Super Mushrooms, and Thwomps were added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on February 25th. Costumes of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Wario also became available to unlock in-game, making villagers look quite unsettling. These items and costumes were added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario series.

Since the start of the Mario cross-promotion, players have been taking advantage of different Super Mario Bros. items to make quality of life improvements in the game. The best example of this comes with the warp pipe item, which allows players to travel from one part of their island to another similar to going from world 1-1 to 1-2 in the first Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The warp pipe can also be used to create exclusive hangouts when combined with terraforming, which is unlocked after K.K. Slider puts on a concert and the credits roll.

Reddit user JimPaulPerez shared a video of a room in his ACNH house decked out with Mario items and modeled to look like the infamously difficult Rainbow Road course from Mario Kart on the r/AnimalCrossing subreddit. The room has multicolored spotlights shining on the rainbow brick floor with Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and 1-Ups on the ground. Above these power-ups are bricks with Super Stars on top and question blocks all in midair. JimPaulPerez did admit to using editing software to add more rainbow effects to the sides of the room, but the result is nonetheless impressive.

The Reddit post is followed by comments asking how JimPaulPerez put the room together and mentioning how cool it is. Others shared their Mario Kart memories and said that it was time to hop in a cart and dramatically drive off of the edge. Another user said that the course could also be made outside, but villagers wouldn’t be able to walk on it as the rainbow blocks would be above ground.

Animal Crossing is a great creative outlet and the addition of items from other franchises gives players more ways to customize their islands. The Rainbow Road room could inspire players to recreate other Mario Kart courses within New Horizons. Hopefully, Nintendo incorporates its other franchises into Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the future. Perhaps a set of Zelda costumes and items to celebrate the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, which will most likely kick off in July.
